 Abstract 

The article provides an analysis of legislation, as well as periodical materials about the establishment and functioning of the Institute of sworn advocacy in pre-revolutionary Russia. Special emphasis is placed on the consideration of the procedures for entering and leaving the number of sworn attorneys, the issues of the rights and obligations of attorneys, the cost and procedure for paying for their services are considered in detail. The full text of the attorney's oath, which was taken by sworn attorneys in pre-revolutionary Russia, is given. When writing this article, the authors used statistical data and materials taken from pre-revolutionary periodicals, as well as documents from the official records of district courts and judicial chambers collected in the state archives of Penza and Saratov regions, which made it possible to identify the first Penza sworn attorney Marinich Ivan M.
